A Touch to Expand

the story of

Contact Improvisation

Growing up with "physical touch" as my primary love language, I was curious about using touch to spread care and affection. However, societal norms often neglected physical contact, labeling it as inappropriate. Driven to change this perception, I discovered Contact Improvisation, a dance practice emphasizing connection through touch, and decided to introduce it to others through classes and a website. I hope to help the younger generation embrace the positive meaning of touch.

In my experience, Contact Improvisation felt more relaxed and emotionally freeing than traditional dance forms. After reaching out to Mr. Ha Tuan Linh, a specialist in the field, I learned from him and his colleague, Mr. Lam Thai Dat. Together, we organized weekly classes focusing on emotional expression through movement. Each session welcomed new participants, offering diverse perspectives and approaches to touch and movement.

After completing the initial eight sessions, I continued the class, striving to attract more young people to the practice. Organizing these lessons has been a challenge, but seeing participants share their experiences and alter their views on physical touch has been deeply rewarding.

And now, let's enjoy my video that recaps my journey of Contact Improvisation!

In addition to the classes, I have also incorporated this form of art into environmental projects like the eARTh exhibition. Here, we used tactile experiences to connect attendees with nature. Participants felt different soil textures to highlight the tangible effects of environmental degradation, fostering a deeper emotional connection with the planet.

A Crystalized Moment

the story of

Film Photography

IMG_4923.JPG

Photography has been a part of my life since childhood. My father bought a Canon digital camera to capture my early years, and later I developed my own passion for photography, saving up for an Olympus Mju Zoom II film camera. Film photography, with its limited frames and the anticipation of developing prints, holds a special nostalgic value for me. Each photo captures meaningful memories, from school events to trips across Vietnam.

I’ve shot over 25 rolls of film since 8th grade, with my two favorite albums being Hanoi and Trips, where I capture the beauty of my city and the various places I’ve traveled across Vietnam. These experiences have expanded my worldview and deepened my connection to the places I've visited.

Please enjoy some of my pictures!

In addition to personal photography, I also pursued my love for the craft through my club, Humans of Hanoi-Amsterdam. We organized Humanoid, a photography exhibition promoting the beauty of Hanoi through the lens of high school students. This event featured over 50 photos and attracted more than 500 attendees, celebrating the diverse and often overlooked aspects of Hanoi life, such as traditional crafts and bustling street life.

Love Letters to Remember

the story of

Cards Collection

For me, postcards are heartfelt messages captured in words. I treasure giving and receiving them on special occasions like birthdays or holidays, as they hold the writer’s genuine sentiments in a simple, tangible form. Over the years, I’ve collected these cards in a box, revisiting them whenever I need comfort or a reminder of past connections. This small hobby brings me immense joy, reminding me of the simple yet profound beauty in handwritten notes.

Please watch this video about my little hobby, which I have shared with the National Committee of Vietnam during the UWC Application Round!

Performing with Heart

A Theatre Kid

the story of

My first performance in high school marked the beginning of my serious pursuit of the performing arts, particularly dance. I poured my energy into that first show and, later, landed a role as a dancer in a musical—a long-held dream since middle school.

Working alongside experienced performers, I learned to expand my dancing skills and explore expressive movements. This musical, set in post-war Vietnam, deeply resonated with me, addressing themes of trauma, loss, and rebuilding hope.

As I gained more experience, I shifted my focus to scriptwriting and directing. Inspired by societal expectations and career stereotypes, I wrote and directed a comedic yet thoughtful performance encouraging people to follow their true passions. Balancing humor with deeper commentary, the play resonated with the audience and reaffirmed my love for storytelling through theater.
